Isobel Robey
Maker, Craftsperson, Printmaker

Isobel Robey is a multidisciplinary artist based in Cardiff, a graduate from the Artist Designer: Maker course at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and the 2026 - 2027 Peter Reddick Bursary Awardee.
Her practice is experimental and interdisciplinary, encompassing a diverse range of outcomes—from hand printed and bound books to large scale installations. She primarily specialises in printmaking, combining various traditional print techniques to create imagery inspired by the world around her.
Isobel's work explores themes such as familiarity, home, fluidity, and the connection between urban and natural environments. By blending imagery with surface, she bridges the gap between 2D and 3D forms, creating dynamic pieces that investigate fragmentation and the layered nature of spaces.

Isobel frequently uses traditional printmaking techniques such as drypoint, linocut, woodcut and, letterpress. Her practice is very playful, pushing the boundaries and combining different techniques to make new outcomes. She finds the nature of relief surfaces particularly interesting as, although sometimes subtle, it is the first step between 2D and 3D, creating a tactile surface.
Through printmaking, Isobel explores the balance between control and looseness. She enjoys the methodical nature of print, with the process itself being repetitive and rhythmic. However the materials also have a mind of their own, the ink has its own agency and properties, bringing a uncontrollable and unexpected elements to the outcomes.
